Darts dominate at BYU Invite

Palmer Flood, Reporter

The BYU Invitational is one of the most competitive track meets in the state of Utah. The meet is divided into two divisions, 1A-2A schools and 3A-5A schools. This allows top athletes who would normally be separated from competition at the state meet, to go head to head. The Darts were well represented with both boys and girls taking home a meet victory.

The Davis girls stomped all competition scoring 82 points, beating second place Maple Mountain by 43 points. Dart individual event champions include Liz Jones taking home 1st place in the Pole vault, and the  4×400 team comprised of BriAnna Gipson, Megan Rowe, Elise Berning, and Melanie Sullivan.

The Davis boys scored 75 points edging second place Orem by 11 points. Dart individual event champions on the boys side include Matt Calvin in the pole vault, and Palmer Flood in the 300m Hurdles.

The meet wasn’t the end of the day for the athletes. With Prom scheduled at 7-10pm on the finals night of the BYU Invitational, many on the team rushed home after their events in order to get ready for their date that very night. Despite the rush, the team stayed committed to their races, and proved to be the best team at the meet.]
