Mockingjay Part 1 Review
December 15, 2014
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is really fun to watch. Katniss Everdeen is suffering in District 13 because of the capture of Peeta Mellark and the loss of her home in District 12. Katniss also has to transform into the Mockingjay so she can save Peeta and motivate the districts into rebelling against the Capital.
I loved the cinematography of Mockingjay. An example of excellent cinematography was when Gale Hawthorne and Katniss hunted in the forest beyond District 13. They ventured to a lake with a large stone building beside it. It was a stunning shot. The camera angles was another great part of the cinematography. At the beginning of the movie Katniss was in the hospital in District 13. The camera zoomed in on her face very slowly and it displayed her depression. The cinematography assisted in bettering the setting and clarifying the emotions.
I also really enjoyed the acting and strong emotions displayed in Mockingjay. Effie Trinket and Alma Coin were the characters that I enjoyed watching the most. Their characters were well developed and they were portrayed effectively.
It was nice to see the Districts rebelling in the movie. That was an addition to the story that readers didn’t as fully experience in the book. I also enjoyed seeing Katniss in the battlefield, especially when she said her famous line in District 8, “If we burn, you burn with us!” It conveyed the theme of the movie that tyranny can never win if the people always fight back.
The plot was entertaining and contained a lot of suspense and action. There was some times though, especially at the beginning, when the plot lagged, but it quickly picked up.
District 13 was not what I had imagined in the book, which was frustrating. There were some details that were missing but for the most part the District was displayed accurately. The rest of the world of Mockingjay was fairly well built. The Capital scenes were interesting because there was a visible change between this movie and the previous two.
Overall Mockingjay Part 1 is a worthwhile movie to watch. The acting was great and the action and suspense kept the plot going for most of the movie. The setting and cinematography also made the movie interesting.
