Living in Utah you know the popularity surrounding Fiiz and Swig. The flavored sodas and cookies make for a great treat and it’s something people here can’t seem to resist. They are both soda shops that provide a customization option for their sodas but although they seem like they are the exact same from an outside perspective there truly is a difference between these two shops.
Swig was founded in 2010 and is considered the original “dirty soda” chain. It got it’s started in St. George, Utah. The owner picked the name from a thesaurus, where the term “swig” was listed under the entry for “drink.” Fiiz was founded in 2014 in Bountiful, Utah. Like Swig, they specialize in custom-made sodas. Fiiz has snacks like popcorn and nachos while Swig doesn’t. On the other hand, Swig has boba and has many more locations in different states.
“Why have these soda shops become so popular here?” is a question you may be asking, well with around 42% of Utah’s population being a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its guidelines against coffee, tea, and alcohol many people now have a preference for non-alcoholic, caffeinated beverages. The rise of “dirty sodas” on social media has also greatly made an impact on their popularity. These shops have now sort of become a cultural phenomenon in Utah and have started to expand to other states
I asked students here at Davis High which soda shop they prefer. “I like Swig better. I like their refreshers more than Fiiz’s and I feel like they have better options for soda like Fresca and their mixes are better. I like their little cookie cups too those are cute.” says Brynlee Beckstrand. Gweneth Chapman states “When I did drink soda, I liked Swig better because of the boba. Many others agreed with this statement like Makenna Williams she said “They have boba there and their water drinks are pretty good. Halle Miller also said, “Swig is better because they have boba.” It looks like boba is huge factor in people’s decision.
Fiiz is also popular here at Davis High, a student Kate Moulton said, it’s my mom’s favorite so I associate it with going with her. It’s kind of nostalgic, I guess. Coach Godfrey also prefers Fiiz, he likes the convenience of its location. Nick Martinez chooses Fiiz as well because of the drink options, he likes more of them there. Fiiz doesn’t have a lot of locations like Swig but for lots of people it has become a favorite for many different reasons.
To conclude, Fiiz and Swig are both amazing soda shops and both offer a large variety of drinks and snacks, but it all comes down to how you feel about them and what you prefer.
If you haven’t already and want to, go look up Swig or Fiiz on your maps app and get a taste of what everyone has been talking about.
