normal, sport, and track that adjusts the steering stiffness and how stiff or soft the
suspension needs to be.
The Corvette has just been built and it has gone through some testing. With that testing,
they do lap times with the car. Surprisingly it has broken 5 lap records that have been
held for a long time. At Road America, they beat a Porsche GT3 RS by over 5 seconds
with a lap time of 2:08.6 minutes. At road Atlanta it beat a Porsche 911 GT2 RS by 2
seconds with a lap time of 1:22.8. At Virginia International Raceway it beat a Shelby
GT500 on the full course by 10 seconds with a lap time of 1:47.7. On the grand course
record it beat a Mclaren Senna with a lap time of 2:23.3. At Watkins Glen it held a
1:52.7 second lap. While all of these are impressive numbers the most impressive thing
is it beat cars more expensive than it. The Porsche GT3 RS is $250,000, the Porsche
GT2 RS is $400,000, the Shelby comes in at the cheapest with $120,000, and the
Mclaren Senna can go up to 1.2 million dollars. The Chevrolet ZR1 is only starting at
$175,000.
The Corvette team over at Chevrolet wants to make the fastest, most
affordable, entry-level supercar and they are doing a great job. The Corvette gets a lot
of hate for being, “not cool” but they wanted to prove everyone wrong and they did.
They beat 5 supercar lap times. The Corvette has made significant improvements over
the years with the engine and the body. With this car being available to the public, it will
be interesting to see how it impacts the car industry. Will other car manufacturers try
making more affordable supercars? Will Ford come out with a new car to compete with
the Corvette ZR1?
