You may have heard Pantone has chosen their color of the year Mocha Mousse. As we enter this new year you might be wondering what style people will be dressing in. I’ve compiled a list of different things I think we could be seeing this year.
Something that is already trending that I think we will see more of is clogs or loafers. The classic style of loafers and the comfort of clogs it’s no wonder they’re so popular at the moment. Brands like Doctor Martens and Birkenstock are two of the most well-known brands to get high quality pairs of these shoes.
Darker shades of red like burgundy or maroon are colors that are being seen more and more across social media. With their rich and moody tone, it’s a great color to add to a look. It’s also a great color choice for Valentines Day which is coming up soon.
A cute way to accessorize your bags are bag charms. They can display your personality and interests while making things unique. Some examples I’ve seen recently are hearts, cherries, tassels, and flowers.
Barn jackets, it may sound weird, but workwear is something that is finding its way into the fashion world. These jackets are both versatile and durable and can provide a rustic touch to any outfit.
Denim, let me explain, although it’s always been trendy because it’s such a staple there are certain styles of denim being worn now like barrel jeans, baggy jeans, and wide leg jeans which we will be seeing again this year. Raw denim is also popular specifically with men. These jeans allow a unique fading pattern to appear as you wear them. I do also
believe we will be seeing people wearing denim on denim despite disagreement with it being cool or not.
The industrious New England look is something people have been obsessing over. The “Fisherman Aesthetic” with knitted sweaters, beanies, and fish on everything. It allows you to feel like you’re in a cool coastal town although you might not be. There has been controversy on the look and mainly it being called the “Fisherman Aesthetic” because it isn’t a realistic portrayal of what fisherman usually wear.
The Bohemian or “Boho” style is making a comeback, while it has been seen in the 1960s and 1970s and even in the 1990s and 2000s it has made its way back into people’s wardrobes. With lace detailing and flowy fabric, it combines vintage influences with a free-spirited feeling.
Beanies and baseball caps despite being staples are being implemented into outfits more and more. Another headwear trend is headbands, whether you like them thick or thin they give your look an added touch while keeping your hair off of your face. Trucker hats which are very similar to baseball caps but have a flat brim and have a mesh back.
Suede; suede shoes, suede bags, suede jackets, it’s something that will be seen more often this year. It’s already being seen with shoes like Adidas Gazelles and loafers. Suede is something that can look really good or really bad depending on how you style it.
Maximalism, think about the 80s where patterns and bright colors were a big part of fashion but with a modern twist. Playful textures, dramatic patterns, statement pieces, excessive accessorizing, and asymmetry will play a heavy role this year.
Although you may associate it with a more rural lifestyle plaid and gingham are big right now, with short sleeved buttoned downs and dresses it is being worn both men and women.
Layering, especially on men is becoming more and more trendy. With things like vests, jackets, and button downs. It isn’t just to keep you warm; it also allows you to have visual interest and depth.
I believe we will also continue with the “preppy vibe” not in the pink girly way you may have seen on TikTok but in a “Gossip Girl” way with things like pleated skirts, vests, and cardigans.
2025 will be a year full of new trends and you might feel like you need to go out and put in the effort to look trendy and cool but just remember this is just a guide. Remember to wear what YOU enjoy and what YOU feel best in.
