Fashion plays a huge role in a lot of people’s lives, especially students. Sometimes, that is
their only way to express themselves in a way that they feel comfortable.
The definition of fashion is argued upon for multiple reasons. First, binding a definition
to “fashion” goes against the entire ideals of fashion itself. Which is to say, fashion is a way to
freely express yourself using clothes and there is no certain style that is “too weird” or
“different”. When people say “define fashion. “it is one of the hardest questions to answer
because there is no definition.
First, this list is not to say that one gender cannot wear a certain item, or another gender
can wear a certain item. Most of these items are universal, and all people can do the thing listed
below.
Some large fashion trends have taken over and changed the industry and certain releases
and launches have changed the fashion world.
Ironic fashion and style are starting to take over. Shirts that you would find a 5-year-old
wearing, different variations of crocs such as the hyped Lightning McQueen Crocs that were
restocked last winter, and most importantly, the MSCHF “Big Red Boots”. These so-called shoes
were highly debated on, and they spread controversy among the fashion worlds. It is exciting to
see where ironic fashion goes from here and if it grows or not.
Another shoe that is highly popular in 2023, is the Adidas Samba, and the Adidas
Superstar. These were a very popular shoe in the mid to late 1990s for their looks. The sneakers
also have a high functionality and have been used for skateboarding, biking, and soccer.
2020/2021 was the year for the Jordan 1s and the Nike Dunk Low. 2022 was the year for the
New Balance 550. And 2023 is the year for the Adidas Samba and Superstars.
For more fancy footwear, the most popular shoes are Mary Janes and Doc Martins. These
have started to pop up more recently in less dressy outfits. These used to be used only for fancy
outfits or dressed up dates. But now, people are starting to style them with regular streetwear
outfits. These shoes are great because of the accessibility. While a bit on the pricier side, they are
well released to the public and you do not have to join a draw or raffle to get a pair like Nike and
Jordan.
Other general footwear that has been trending this year, are Adidas Gazelle, most types of
Converse, Nike Vomero 5, Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, and Birkenstocks. These are just a few
footwear items that are trending though there are plenty of shoes right now that are considered
“fashionable” at the moment.
For accessories, some trendy items would be rings, side bags, and 90s/Y2K style
sunglasses. Out of the blue, these specific types of sunglasses have been starting to pop up. Side
bags have also been used as a layering piece in lots of outfits, also using them to carry keys,
wallets, headphones, and cameras. You know, just to keep the functionality in them.
One trend that no one has been talking about, is using your belt loops or belt to hold
accessories. Things like keys and wallets have started to pop up around the fashion world. Even
some people have started to use fancy carabiners, keychains, and holding headphones and
ChapStick. Also, having an empty clip or empty carabiners as an accessory on your belt has even
started to pop up.
Probably the biggest trend in 2023, are baggy pants and jeans. In years past, there was a
cap or limit on how baggy pants could be without the wearer looking like a fool. But 2023 has
really pushed the boundary on how baggy pants could be. Also flared jeans have slowly popped
back into popularity with the company JNCO leading the charge. But even your local clothing
shop has started to adapt and sell more wide-fitting jeans and pants. Pants with designs and
embroideries are also becoming more and more popular. Though, pants like these are a bit on the
expensive side so they are more unavailable than other pants.

always worn beneath the knee, and they create this unique aesthetic to an otherwise bland outfit.
