With polls coming out daily the need to be informed grows rapidly, in just over a year
the 2024 election day will be upon us. With what feels like a long time being just 12 months
away many candidates are fighting their way through the primaries and debates. With
candidates on both sides the Republican primary debates have started, with impeachments and
charges placed on the leaders. Accusations are running wild as both parties want to take
control. The two biggest names and leaders for their respective parties are Joe Biden for the
Democratic party and Donald Trump for the Republicans.
TRUMPS CHARGES
Former president Trump who is running for his second
term in office has been in the political hot seat recently, he has
been indicted in multiple states for multiple different actions that
the former president has allegedly committed. Following his
actions or lack thereof on January 6th, 2021, Trump has had his
Mar-a-Lago home raided, had criminal charges thrown his way,
and Impeached while still in office. With all these obstacles in his
way Trump keeps pushing and gaining steam in unconventional
ways including his own mugshot which ended up helping him.
when many believed it would hurt him. The mugshot alone raised several million dollars
towards fundraising his campaign.
BIDENS IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY
Current President Joe Biden has been a political target
for multiple reasons, whether it’s his dealings with the war in
Ukraine, his Bidenomics plan that has caused an economic
spiral, and his largest and most controversial findings leading
to a recent impeachment inquiry by former house speaker
Kevin McCarthy, regarding his dealings with his son and his
son’s business actions while the president was still the Vice
President. From a laptop to narcotics in the white house
president Biden’s son Hunter has been in the view of the
public for quite some time with substantial amounts of money
coming into his position on multiple occasions with then VP
Biden being in close communication with leaders in Ukraine and
with businesses that those funds were coming from.
THE UPCOMING ELECTION
Next November election day will decide the president for the following four years. With
this year’s senior class being able to vote in this election the time is now to determine who you
believe will best represent you. While the battle of accused rolls along there are many other
candidates that are trying to find their way to the general election’s ballet in the coming
months. The GOP has had two primary debates headlined by the lack of former president
Trump and full of attacks on all the candidates involved. As the election edges closer we need
to stay informed of the events happening with those who are in the public’s eye so that when
election day rolls around, we will be able to get the best president for the nation.
With the seniors at Davis High having the ability to vote this coming year the time is now
for all of us to inform ourselves, form our own opinions and most importantly get out and vote
on election day. In an interview with a state school board member when asked what they look
for in a suitable presidential candidate they responded by saying that “a candidate needs to be
able to differentiate federal issues from state issues.” The board member also stated that the
president should set our nation up for future success.
Once again it is our time to decide the future of the nation. With both parties leading
candidates on a hot seat and our house of representatives leading to a possible governmental
shutdown that received a large boost with the speaker Kevin McCarthy being removed. This
removal happened Tuesday following a 116 to 110 vote for his removal this coming only
months after the more than a weeklong process of approving him for the position in the first
place.
Whether you know your political position or are just sitting in the middle on the fence
the most important thing to do if eligible next November is to get out and vote. The time is now
to get informed and prepare so when election day begins, we are ready to give our vote and
make our mark as every vote counts when dealing with not only our futures, but the futures of
those around us and those to come.
