Darts Rolling through Region Play
The Davis High Football team is steamrolling through the first half of region play after a strong defensive showing against Weber high. This win was followed by a dominating 42-0 shutout win on homecoming against the Fremont Silver Wolves.
All season long the Darts defense has been dominating as the preseason ended with an impressive 4-1 record with their only loss coming to the defending 5A champions the Lehi Pioneers in the UHSAA endowment game.
Following the loss, the Darts defeated West Jordan, Clearfield, Kearns, and Taylorsville to finish off the preseason. Led by a powerfull D-Line with sophomore Ami Moala, Senior Captain Jordan Taula, the Darts have given the opponents quarterback trouble all season long.
Following a loss to Skyridge in the state playoffs last season, then starting quarterback Jackson Stevens transferred to Skyridge, stepping in has been sophomore quarterback Tradon Bessinger who has been firing on all cylinders and has been able to command a high caliber receiving core. Led by #8 Kash Gates, who in a 45-26 win over the Weber Warriors at home had 11 receptions for 4 touchdowns and 156 yards. Alongside Gates is freshman Bode Sparrow who in the game against the Warriors had 6 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Coached by Scott Peery the Darts march forward to the final three regular season games playing back-to-back-to-back rivalry games starting this Friday on the road against the cross-town rivals the Layton Lancers @ 7:00, following the matchup against the Lancers the darts are slated to travel to the IKEA of Davis County where they will play the Farmington Phoenix in the annual battle for the teal and gold chain. The Darts will wrap up region play against a 2 loss Syracuse team at home.
The Darts will be down a key starter the rest of the season after sophomore Ami Moala has moved out of the state and is now ineligible to finish the season. While this loss will take its toll on the Darts strong defensive line, the season long saying TLCN or Trust Love Compete No Excuses stands strong, and Seniors like Jordan Taula will not be looking to back down.
Leading into the matchup against the Layton Lancers the Darts fall at the top of the 6A region 1 rankings, and #10 in the “Slingin’ the Pill Media” Utah state rankings. With playoff RPI and seeding looming Peery and the Darts look to take the state by storm as a large underdog and see how far of a run they can make after falling in the playoffs to Skyridge just last season.
