Davis High indoor track starts up

More stories from Connor Finlinson

As winter really settles in, Davis high athletics either take a break or move indoors. Despite the weather the Davis track team continues to practice and compete throughout the winter.

Due to the weather, some athletes are forced the perform and practice indoors. For example sprinters and hurdlers on the team practice technique and drills in the halls and on the indoor track. Alongside them throwers and other field event athletes often join them drills and spend the rest of their practice time lifting and improving technique. As for long distance, the yearly practice doesn’t change. Despite the weather the Distance crew continues to battle the elements on their long outdoor runs. Long distance runner Carson Knight said:

“Yeah it’s usually pretty cold, but when you dress warm and work hard you tend to not notice it.”

Throughout this winter the team will compete it as many as 5 meets between now and the end of February, including a very large scale meet on a wooden track at Idaho State University. The head coach, Markham Hyde, is hope to lead the team into another successful indoor season, and to pave the way for another state title in the outdoor.

Make sure to wish your fellow darts good luck this weekend as they compete in their first meet at the Olympic Oval in Kearnes, UT
